If you’re a Tickle or Tickell, I expect at some time you’ve wondered about the origin of the name. Although there are a few areas where it isn’t an uncommon surname, in most places it is unusual. The aim of the Tickle One-Name Study is to try to find out as much as possible about Tickle and Tickell families in the past, and to see which branches originate where, and which are connected.
Over the next three months I plan to post information about the main areas of England where the name was common in the 19th century, together with details of some families I have been able to trace in those areas. I’m also going to try to contact people with the surname in those areas. Hopefully, some will be descendants of the families I’ve identified and might participate in the study.
If you know that your Tickle or Tickell ancestors came from England or Ireland, do get in touch with me and let me know who they were. Perhaps I already have information about them in my database? You may be able to improve the accuracy of what I have discovered? Maybe I can help you overcome a ‘brick wall’ in your own research.
Let’s make 2020 a notable year for finding our Tickle and Tickell ancestors and learning more about their lives.
